The next Hastings City Council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21. Here’s a look at what the council will be discussing.
City staff is proposing partial parking restrictions along the north side of 12th Street west of Pleasant Drive. The Hastings School District has reported difficulty maneuvering buses through the street as well as difficulty in traffic flow during school rush hour periods due to lack of space. The proposal would restrict parking from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. and between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. on school days.
The Parks and Recreation Department will present its annual report. The report will discuss the state of the city’s parks and trails, forestry, recycling, leisure services, the Hastings Family Aquatic Center and the Hastings Civic Arena.
The council will review a map that changes ward boundaries within the city. Redistricting is being done in an effort to balance the city’s population among the four wards for equal representation as well as balance the eight precincts/polling places. If the map is approved, city staff will prepare an ordinance amendment, which would be opened to public comment at the March 19 council meeting. The statutory deadline to have ward and precinct boundaries redrawn is April 3.
