The Hastings boys Alpine ski team just missed qualifying as a team for the state meet. At the Section 4 meet at Wild Mountain on Wednesday, Feb. 8, the Raiders placed fifth, but the team was less than 20 points away from second place.
Stillwater won the meet with 440 points.
Eagan was second with 402, East Ridge was third with 401, Mahtomedi was third with 401 and St. Thomas was fourth with 394.
Hastings had 388.5 points.
The news wasn’t all bad for the Raiders, though. Senior Dustin Erickson qualified for the state meet with a ninth-place finish.
Erickson had a combined time of 59.53 seconds on his two runs. He raced Wednesday at the state meet, held at Giants Ridge in Biwabik.
Adam Peine was the No. 2 Hastings finisher. He had a combined time of 1:01.94 and placed 18th.
Jacob Juelfs took 24th for Hastings with a time of 1:02.42.
Stephen O’Connor placed 56th for the Raiders, coming in at 1:10.40.
Will Caturia placed 59th in 1:12.91 and Joe Wright was 94th in 1:30.73.
The Hastings girls team placed 13th in the meet with 215 points.
The Raiders were led by Sara Juelfs, who had a time of 1:13.51. She placed 44th.
Danika Truax placed 53rd in 1:17.33; Ellie Peine was 66th in 1:23.28; and Ursula Rumann took 82nd in 1:33.80. Also racing were Esther Susag and Gabriella Sorg.
Minneapolis Southwest won the meet with 412 points. East Ridge was second with 408.
