Girls lose to Park

It wasn’t long ago that the Park High School girls basketball team was really struggling to win games.

That has certainly changed.

Park is now sitting atop the Suburban East Conference standings with an 11-2 mark, bolstered by a win over Hastings last week, 71-41.

Hastings, with a talented crop of youthful players, hopes to eventually do exactly what Park did — improve and be competitive every night in the SEC.

This year that has been a challenge, though. Hastings is 2-18 overall and 0-13 in the SEC.

In Friday’s game against the Wolfpack, the Cottage Grove school took a 36-25 lead at halftime and then outscored Hastings 35-16 in the second half to pull away.

Hastings was led in scoring by Lexie Harp, who finished with 15 points. Jill Weinzettel had nine, Morgan Tjomsland had three, Hanah Martin had two, Sabrina Astar had five, Nicole Hollar had two and Lauren Thomas had five.
