Editorial: What an amazing effort, Hastings!

We were overwhelmed Friday evening at the sight: Hundreds of volunteers had turned out to kick off their weekend by standing shoulder-to-shoulder and packing meals to send abroad to starving children and families.

We were overwhelmed Friday evening at the sight: Hundreds of volunteers had turned out to kick off their weekend by standing shoulder-to-shoulder and packing meals to send abroad to starving children and families.

It truly was an amazing effort. There were pint-size volunteers. There were senior citizens. There were members of church groups, there were varsity sports teams, there were groups of co-workers. Dozens and dozens of organizations banded together and will have undoubtedly saved lives by packing all that food.

This same scene played out for much of Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Hastings High School, as volunteers worked to pack 500,000 meals for Feed My Starving Children.

To all of you: Your work is appreciated. Thank you for leaving such a positive impression of our community.

To the organizers: What an amazing job you did to get this all put in place. With an event like this, all kinds of work must be done in advance to pull it off. Your work paid off.

To think that 500,000 times over the coming months a starving person will eat because of the efforts of you all is astonishing. Job well done!
