Editorial: An exercise in free speech

Downtown Hastings was a loud place to be this week. Union protesters marched outside a business here because they said the firm doing work inside didn’t pay its employees the area standard when it comes to wages.

Downtown Hastings was a loud place to be this week. Union protesters marched outside a business here because they said the firm doing work inside didn’t pay its employees the area standard when it comes to wages.

Like the message or not, the protesters have a right to be there. We should see such demonstrations as a sign that freedom of speech is alive and well. Anyone who disagrees with their stance, for example, is welcome to write a letter to this newspaper, or to step on their own soapbox downtown.
