Mounds View too much for Raiders

The Hastings boys swimming team lost a relatively close Suburban East Conference swimming meet to Mounds View on Tuesday night, 52-47.

Only the top three swimmers in each event placed because of a narrow Mounds View pool. Hastings swimmers turned in some great performances at the meet, but Mounds View had some very strong top-end swimmers and enough depth to overpower the much smaller and much younger team from Hastings.

Results from the meet went like this:

50 freestyle – Underwood, first, 22.69; Utecht, fourth, 24.84.

100 butterfly – Smith, first, 54.77; Reilly, third, 59.02.

100 freestyle – Underwood, first, 49.98; Tipler, fourth, 56.89.

500 freestyle – Thomas Everson, second, 5:10.19; Jack VanZee, fourth, 5:40.19.

200 freestyle relay – team of Smith, Underwood, Reilly and Thomas Everson, second, 1:32.79; team of Benson, Steven Kimmes, VanZee and Tipler, fourth, 1:45.09.

100 backstroke – Benson, third, 1:02.42; Utecht, fourth, 1:03.37.

100 breaststroke – Sassor, first, 1:07.47; Tipler, second, 1:10.85.

400 freestyle relay – team of Smith, Thomas Everson, Utecht and Sassor, first, 3:34.59; team of VanZee, Steven Kimmes, Scully and Benson, second, 4:02.60.

50 freestyle – Lauder, third, 27.96; Clark, fourth, 29.48.
