A crash that closed the Highway 60 bridge in Hastings for about an hour was caused by a driver who couldn’t stay in his lane.
According to the state report, Cory Koplin, 40 of Red Wing, was driving south on Highway 61 and drifted across the center line. David Asleson, 51 of Lake City, was driving north and tried to avoid Koplin, but didn’t have enough room to maneuver. Koplin struck Asleson’s vehicle in the side, causing it to spin and slide sideways in the roadway. A third vehicle driven by Curtis Raatz, 42 of Hastings, was unable to avoid Asleson’s vehicle and collided with it, causing it to roll onto its side. A witness driving southbound between Koplin and Raatz told the State Patrol that Koplin had crossed the center line earlier as well. Asleson was transported to the hospital.
