Driver in Highway 55 crash on Monday said he fell asleep while driving

William Wessinger, 39 of Hastings, was traveling east on Highway 55 at about 3:20 p.m. when he began to weave and suddenly crossed into the westbound lane. He struck another vehicle, driven by Royce Parker, 69 of Edina, nearly head-on. According to the Minnesota State Patrol report, Wessinger said he thought he had fallen asleep while driving.

Both drivers were transported to the hospital.
