Again this year, the Roseville Raiders are one of the state’s top girls hockey teams. Hastings saw why Roseville is ranked so highly in a Suburban East Conference game Friday night. Roseville won, 6-0.
That said, coach Jeff Corkish was pleased with what he saw from his team.
“Our girls left the arena holding their heads up high, since this is one of the best girls hockey teams we have ever seen,” coach Jeff Corkish said. “We knew it was going to be a big challenge to try and upset them, so we made it a goal to forget about the scoreboard and just make a promise to ourselves to play hard for 51 minutes and let the results be what they are. The results may not have been in our favor on the scoreboard but we were proud of some other results, such as the shots on net. We kept them to 26 shots while getting 22 ourselves.
“That stat alone tells us how hard we played at both ends of the ice. Our girls were tough all night taking the body, blocking shots, backchecking and overall just not giving up.
“Not very often does a loss feel good but this time our team felt pretty good about themselves and our potential.”
