Through a coin drive at their respective schools, they raised a total of $4,800 for Hastings Family Service.

The money was donated last week, and comes at a perfect time for the local non-profit. As the holidays are quickly approaching, HFS needs all the funding it can get to provide food, clothing and, if all goes as planned, some holiday cheer to those less fortunate this year.

We are well aware that students here in Hastings are doing many positive things for their community. Many times, these efforts fly under the radar.

This week, we are trying to change that.

Please, the next time you hear one of your neighbors or co-workers complaining about “kids these days,” please remember this story. Remember that group of great, hard-working and socially conscious students worked together to raise $4,800 to fight hunger in Hastings. Then spread the news.
