A communications drill focusing on a hostile action-based incident response will be conducted for Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant on Tuesday, Oct. 18.

The exercise involves the states of Minnesota and Wisconsin, Xcel Energy, Red Wing Police, Fire and Ambulance departments, Prairie Island Police Department, and Goodhue and Pierce counties.

The event will test the communications capabilities of the agencies that would take action to protect the health and safety of area residents in the unlikely event of a nuclear incident involving a hostile action.

Field activities will take place in and around the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant in Goodhue County. Residents near the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant should not be alarmed by emergency responders in their vehicles and in aircraft carrying out their communications tests.
