The Hastings girls swimming team beat East Ridge on Thursday, 97-84, turning a close meet into a blowout down the stretch.

The meet was held at East Ridge, meaning the Raptors could sweep the diving spots and pick up 12 key points. Hastings doesn’t have a diving program because the pool at the middle school is too shallow.

After diving, the score was 38-37 in favor of Hastings. The next two events were close, and after the 100 freestyle Hastings led just 55-52.

In the 500 freestyle, though, Hastings flexed its muscle, placing first, third and fourth to take a 66-57 lead.

In the 200 freestyle relay, Hastings took first and third and went up 76-61. The nail in the Raptors’ coffin came in the 100 backstroke, when Hastings took the top three spots to lead 89-64.

The swimmer of the meet for the Raiders was Melanie Devine, who had personal best times in all of her events.
