Melvin "Mac" McGoon, age 90, of Hastings, passed away peacefully at home on Sept. 25, 2011.

Melvin "Mac" McGoon, age 90, of Hastings, passed away peacefully at home on Sept. 25, 2011.

Mac was born March 15, 1921, in Sandstone, Minn. He served in the Army during WWII and married Donna Mae Schultz on March 6, 1943, in Winona. He was an avid golfer, card player, bowler, and a private pilot for more than 30 years. A photographer and business owner, Mac was the founder of the Mac McGoon Portrait and Design Studio in 1956.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Donna; and six siblings.

Mac is survived by his son, Randy (Jenny) McGoon, and daughter, Cindy (Armin) Hoffmann, all of Hastings; grandchildren, Matthew McGoon, Emily McGoon-Short, Aaron Hoffmann, and Adam (Rachel) Hoffmann.

The funeral service, officiated by Rev. Lloyd Menke, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, at Our Saviour's Ev. Lutheran Church, 400 West 9th St., Hastings, with visitation for 1-1/2 hour prior to the service. Visitation will also be held from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Interment with full military honors provided by the Hastings V.F.W. Lyle Russell Post #1210 will be held in Lakeside Cemetery, Hastings. The pallbearers were Aaron Hoffmann, Katy Fraser, Matthew McGoon, Angie Clark, Adam Hoffmann, Rachel Egeberg-Hoffmann, Emily McGoon-Short, and Patrick Short.

Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
