Community Education partnered with Reach Education Solutions to hold a cooking class for young children at the Hastings Community Education Center. The class was geared towards younger children and focused on the steps of cooking, including washing hands, mixing ingredients, and cleaning up.
During the three days of class, participants made edible caterpillars, salsa, and fudge.
“The caterpillars were my favorite recipe,” said PJ Noonan, cooking class participant. “I liked the pretzels we made them out of.”
Children put together caterpillars with lettuce, pretzels, dressing, carrots, and raisins.
Class participants were also encouraged to make healthy snacks at home and share with the class their experiences.
Jia Brown started Reach Education Solutions in 2002. Brown, a mother of five, began Reach Education Solutions when her oldest daughter began experiencing difficulties learning math.
“Everyone learns differently, including my daughter,” said Brown. “Reach offers out-of-the-box learning classes that integrate things kids love into learning.”
Reach Education Solutions focuses on building relationships with children and combining different learning styles for different children said Brown.
Community Education and Reach Education Solutions will be holding two Spanish classes, running Aug. 1-4 for children kindergarten to second grade and third grade to fifth grade.
