The 2011 Rivertown Days festival, complete with music shows, arts and craft fair, lots of food, lumberjack show, demonstrations, tournaments, duck races, river run, fireworks display, and other activities is this week – July 14 to Sunday, July 17. There is something for everyone. The Edina Realty Medallion Hunt kicked off earlier this week.
Teen Night at the Hastings Family Aquatic Center is scheduled from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday, July 14. Sponsored by the City of Hastings Parks and Recreation, Youth First, and Smead, the evening includes open swim for teens 13 to 17, musical entertainment by a DJ, games, and pizza giveaways. There is no fee for admission.
The music shows are set to begin Friday, July 15, and continue all weekend at the stage at Jaycee Park along the Mississippi River.
The Killer Hayseeds will perform from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday, July 15. The Killer Hayseeds are celebrating their 21st year as a legendary high-energy country band.
The entertainment for Saturday, July 16, is Transit Authority from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and Arch Allies from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
On Sunday, July 17, the stage is ready for The Players from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Hog dog pig racing will be held at 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 15; at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July16; and at 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Sunday, July 17, in Jaycee Park.
The Timberworks Lumberjack Show will give five performances Saturday and Sunday, July 16 and 17, in Jaycee Park along the Mississippi River.
Show times are 11:30 a.m., 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Saturday, July 16; and at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sunday, July 17.
Erickson Marina is sponsoring custom helicopter rides at the business, north of Hastings from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, July 15; from 12:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 16; and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 17.
The Minnesota Herpetological Society will present its program about reptiles and amphibians from 5to 7 p.m. Friday, July 15, and again from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, July 16, in Jaycee Park.
Rich Wieber’s Bicycle Stunt Show returns on Friday and Saturday, July 15 and 16. The United Methodist Church will hold its pancake breakfast Saturday and Sunday, July 16 and 17 at the church, 615 W. 15th St.
The arts and craft fair will be held in Levee Park Saturday and Sunday. The Bass Blowout will be held Sunday morning near the boat launch
The “Kids .10 Karnival,” sponsored by River of Life Church, 800 Vermillion St., will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 16. The games benefit Hastings Family Service.
The Rich Valley RC Club will hold flying demonstrations from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, July 16, at the field, just south of Hastings on County Road 47. The demonstrations will feature many types and sizes of radio-controlled model aircraft flown by club members. There will be hourly “combat” competitions.
Rivertown Days bingo, sponsored by the Hastings Area Senior Center, will be held from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 16, at the Senior Center. Open to the entire community, the games are 10 cents each or three for 25 cents.
The fireworks display is at dusk Saturday. They will be displayed over Jaycee Park.
The voyageur canoe tours, sponsored by the Hastings Environmental Protectors (HEP) will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 17. They leave from the Lake Rebecca boat launch.
The Stipes carnival shows will be operational in Jaycee Park from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, July 15; from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, July 16; and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 17.
A 2011 Rivertown Days button or t-shirt is required to enter Jaycee Park and the Lake Rebecca Park area. The buttons are available at the Hastings Area Chamber of Commerce and at Hastings businesses. T-shirts are available at Special Tees.
Entries in the amateur photography contest, sponsored by Mac McGoon Portrait Design Studio, are being displayed in the carriage house at the LeDuc Historic Estate.
The boat launch in Jaycee Park will be closed from late Thursday to the conclusion of Rivertown Days. Alternate boat launches are the Hastings Marina, King’s Cove, and Prescott Marina.
