Raulo was born May 26, 1922, in Chicago Heights, Ill., to Knute and Edythe (Anderson) Malm. A graduate of Red Wing High School, he enlisted in the Marine Corps in early 1942 and earned paratroop wings in San Diego. He spent 2 years in Solomon Islands and later returned to the U.S. to train for assault on Iwo Jima. After his discharge, he returned to Red Wing and a job as foreman at the McCoy Curran garage. Raulo married Lois Eastlund on July 19, 1947, in Red Wing. He later established the Hastings Readi Mix and was in that business for a number of years before joining Hastings Lumber Mart as credit manager prior to retirement.
