Letter: Governor and legislature need to compromise

This weekend, I received a layoff notice from my employer, the State of Minnesota.

An open letter to my legislators:

This weekend, I received a layoff notice from my employer, the State of Minnesota.

It is not right or fair that my work for the state of Minnesota should be affected because you and the governor cannot come to terms. All I am asking for is a compromise.

I see that the governor has moved quite a bit in the last few months. I do not see the same for the Republican-controlled legislature. When Governor Mark Dayton proposed a mediator, you and the rest of the Republicans rejected it. That makes me think that you do not want to find a compromise.

While my position at work will probably not be deemed critical, I think it is. I help run and write computer programs for a system used to ensure that materials used to make roads are safe. I can proudly say that I help make Minnesota's roads safer and stay safe longer.

Please let me continue to work for Minnesota. Please compromise — for Minnesota.
