Hastings wins first-round game at state softball tournament, 16-1

The Hastings softball team had a dominating performance in the first round of the state softball tournament Thursday morning in North Mankato. Hastings, the No. 4-ranked team in the state, beat Bloomington Jefferson, 16-1. The Jaguars were ranked No. 5.
Hastings will play Hopkins in the state tournament semifinals at 3 p.m. Thursday.
Hastings had three home runs in the game, and a number of big hits. Treya Connell, Lori Bauer and Kaitlin Stark each had home runs.
Hastings played good defense behind Connell, who earned the win.
