The team season for the Hastings boys tennis team ended Thursday afternoon with a 5-2 loss to the Owatonna Huskies.

The Huskies swept the three doubles positions en route to the win.

Hastings finishes the team season with a 6-8 overall record and a 4-5 mark in Suburban East Conference play.

“Despite a tough loss to Owatonna, I would mark this as a successful season,” coach Mick Willette said. “We improved tremendously as the season went on, hung tough after a rocky start against solid competition, and put together a five-match win streak which was jump-started by a big upset over Cretin.”

Hastings now turns its attention to the individual section tournament, under way this week.

Against Owatonna, Ben Carlson fell at first singles, 6-1, 6-2.

Matt Lund lost at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-4.

Chase Kasel earned a win at third singles for Hastings, winning 7-5, 6-3.

Cody Arndtson won at fourth singles, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5.

In doubles, the No. 1 team of Charlie Carpenter and Tyler Mellick lost 6-1, 7-5.

Jalen Sneddeker and Zach Mellick lost at No. 2 doubles, 6-2, 0-6, 6-4.

The No. 3 team of Ben Klimek and Steven Roach lost 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.

In exhibition singles, Craig Nielsen fell, 6-3, 6-2.

Captains for this year’s team are Lund, Kasel, Carpenter and Carlson.

“I give a lot of credit to my captains for keeping the team focused on the right things every day at practice and for showing the young guys how you compete confidently no matter who you are playing,” Willette said.
