Latest river crest forecast is 17.5 feet

The 2011 flood is expected to crest much lower than many had feared. The National Weather Service is now predicting the river will crest at 17.5 feet on March 31.

The 2011 flood is expected to crest much lower than many had feared. The National Weather Service is now predicting the river will crest at 17.5 feet on March 31.

There is still roughly a 50 percent chance that spring rains and snow melt could push water levels above the expected 17.5 crest later in the flood season. Long-term predictions are based on conditions as of March 23.

The river reached flood stage in Hastings Saturday, March 26. Flood stage is 15 feet. The water had risen to 17.4 feet as of Wednesday morning, March 30.
