A 19-year-old Hastings woman, Aleeza Saande, died Sunday afternoon in a crash near Lake City.
Saande was south of Lake City, traveling southbound on Highway 61, when her car crossed the centerline and was broadsided by a charter bus.
The 2010 Hastings High School graduate is a student at Winona State University. She was on her way back to the school following the holiday break.
"She was just this bubbly, smiling, wonderful person," Hastings High School principal Mike Johnson said. "That's what people kept saying about her last night. What a wonderful, wonderful person she is. My heart goes out to Dan and Marylynn, her parents, and her sister Cassondra. This is just really hard."
Among the extra curricular activities that Saande was involved in while at HHS was Young Life, a non-demoninational Christian ministry that reaches out to youths. Cory Gibson is the Hastings Young Life leader and got to know Saande last year.
"She was a wonderful girl and we will miss her," he wrote in an e-mail. "Let's lift up our extended YL family in prayer during this time of unimaginable sorrow, numbness, and questioning."
Saande was driving a 2002 Ford Focus.
Two passengers on the bus were transported from the scene. The driver of the bus, Peter Biffert of Winona, was not injured in the crash.
The crash occurred at 1:33 p.m.
More information on the crash will be posted as it becomes available.
