Genevieve Wimer, age 97, of Hastings, died Dec. 29, 2010, at Regina Nursing Home.

Genevieve was born on a farm near Frankfort, S.D., the daughter of William and Oni Valder, on Nov. 12, 1913. She received her education at Frankfort High School and Aberdeen Business College. Her marriage to Glenn Wimer took place Nov. 16, 1939, in Washington D.C., where they were both employed by the federal government. In 1949 they moved to Redfield, S.D., where she was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church.

Mrs. Wimer worked at the Spink County Courthouse and the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation, from which she retired in May 1976. She served as president of the South Spink Unit of the American Cancer Society for nine years after its organization in 1967. Since her retirement she, with her husband, spent 20 happy years in Boulder City, Nev. Genevieve has resided in a senior housing facility in Hastings since 2000.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Glenn.

Genevieve is survived by her children, Glenn C. (Connie) Wimer of Ogden, Utah, Miles L. (Sue) Wimer of Eagan, and Kathleen Wimer (Joseph Puleo) of California; grandchildren, Nathan Wimer, Trevis Wimer, and Sarah Moldenhauer-Salazer; great-grandchildren, Petra, Dane, Jonah, and Lily; also devoted nephews and nieces.

The funeral Mass, officiated by Rev. Robert Altier, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 31, at the Regina Chapel, 1175 Nininger Rd., Hastings, with visitation 1 hour prior. Interment will be held at a later date in Greenlawn Cemetery, Redfield, S.D. The family wishes to express special thanks to all the staff at Regina Senior Living and Nursing Home.
