The second week of the regular season started and ended with the Raiders still undefeated. Early in the young season there have been many wrestlers making key contributions, with all of them wrestling tough when called upon.
On Thursday, the Hastings Raiders wrestling team travelled to Arden Hills to face Mounds View and East Ridge in a triangular. Hastings proved again why they are one of the nation’s top wrestling teams and found little resistance on their way to victories in both matches.
In the opening round against host Mounds View, the Raiders overpowered the Mustangs by scoring nine pins, two decisions, and two forfeits.
In a match of ranked wrestlers, Zach Rohr (#2) squared off against Luke Boroda (#5). Rohr was first to score with a takedown, while Boroda was able to gain an escape before the first period ended. Boroda opted to begin the second period down and was able to score his second escape of the match to tie it at 2-2. Rohr chose to begin the third period down and quickly scored his own escape. Leading 3-2, Rohr took control of the match with two takedowns on his way to a 7-3 victory.
At 189 pounds, Josh Lohmann and Steven Oczak clashed with Lohmann jumping out in front with a takedown and near fall points. In the second period, Lohmann extended his lead on his way to a 7-3 decision.
The Raiders scoring pins in the match were Rowh, I. Bauer, Norris, Latuff, Marquette, Nelson, Engstrom, Eichmann, and Anderson.

Vs East Ridge
In the nightcap, the Raiders found little competition and the match was over before it started.

Jake Swenson is having a sound start to his junior season, and his match with Nick Bachman (#9) at 171 pounds, showed how tough he is. Swenson started the scoring with a takedown in the first period, and after giving up a second period reversal, Swenson earned an escape and a takedown to end the second period 5-2. In the third period, Swenson added an escape to round out the scoring at 6-2.
