Red Wing firefighters were on standby Wednesday morning following an anhydrous ammonia leak in Randolph.

Red Wing firefighters were on standby Wednesday morning following an anhydrous ammonia leak in Randolph.

Goodhue County sheriff’s spokeswoman Kris Weiss said deputies were called at 8:45 a.m. to provide traffic assistance on 292nd Street in Randolph, a Dakota County town located west of Cannon Falls.

According to multiple reports, emergency crews were evacuating residents in the area. Students were removed to St. Mark's Church, and residents were told they could go to the Randolph-Hampton Fire Department in Hampton. Residents started arriving at the department at around 11 a.m., said firefighter Jarod Waltman.

As of about noon, reports indicated that the leak had been contained, Waltman said, and that residents should be able to return to the city sometime this afternoon, after more air quality tests are done.
