The season ended Tuesday night in Apple Valley for the Hastings boys soccer team with a 10-0 loss to the state’s No. 1 ranked team in the first round of the section tournament.
Hastings finishes the season with a 2-15 record.
Hastings lost to White Bear Lake on Thursday, 1-0. Despite the result, coach Shane Lanning was encouraged by what he saw from his team.
“Overall, it was a pretty good game,” he said. “It was, in my opinion, the best game we’ve played all-around. One of the things I liked about that game was the accountability factor. Everyone on the team seemed to be holding each other to a higher degree of accountability. A higher standard. If someone was letting down, they were getting on each other’s cases, but not in a bad away.
“That was a nice little thing that I wish I would have seen all year long.”
The Bears scored their goal in the first half. Hastings had its chances, too, but just couldn’t find the back of the net.
“They made a really good effort,” Lanning said. “We had a couple good opportunities, but we just couldn’t capitalize on them.”
