Raider tennis team opens season with two wins in Duluth

The fall sports season is officially under way at Hastings High School. The girls tennis team from Hastings kicked things off over the weekend, traveling to Duluth for a tournament organized by Duluth East.

The fall sports season is officially under way at Hastings High School.

The girls tennis team from Hastings kicked things off over the weekend, traveling to Duluth for a tournament organized by Duluth East.

Hastings won two close matches and lost one.

Vs Duluth East

Hastings began the tournament with a 4-3 win over Duluth East.

Results went like this:

At first singles, Duluth’s Qwong Suthijindawong defeated Lindsey Reinisch of Hastings, 6-0, 6-0

At second singles, Duluth’s Annie Mahoney won over Kirsten Peterson, 6-4, 6-1.

At the third spot, Hastings’ Morgan Tjomsland won over Caroline Skinner, 6-1, 6-0.

At fourth singles, Hailey Lundquist of Hastings beat Johannah Saari, 6-2, 7-6.

In doubles play, the Hastings team of Shanna Burgmeier and Erika Nielsen won, 7-6, 6-0.

At the second spot, Gina Dabruzzi and Ashley Addison won, 7-5, 6-3.

At third doubles, Jessica Wassink and Hannah Carlson of Hastings lost 6-7, 6-0, 1-0 (10-8).

Vs Virginia

Hastings lost a close second-round match to Virginia, 4-3.

At first singles, Reinisch won 6-0, 6-2.

At the second spot, Shanna Burgmeier lost a close match, 6-3, 6-3.

At the third spot, Tjomsland won, 6-2, 6-4.

Taylor Gunderson of Duluth East beat Hailey Lundquist at fourth singles, 7-6, 5-7, 1-0 (10-8).

In doubles, Peterson and Nielsen lost 6-0, 6-2.

At second doubles, Dabruzzi and Wassink won 7-6, 6-2.

At third doubles, Carlson and Addison lost 6-1, 6-1.

Vs White Bear

Hastings rebounded with a 4-3 win over White Bear Lake.

Hastings got wins at the top three singles spots.

Reinisch won at No. 1, 6-0, 6-1.

Burgmeier won at second singles, 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (11-9).

Addison won at third singles, 6-3, 6-4.

Jessica Wassink fell at fourth singles, 6-3, 6-1.

In doubles, Hastings got a big win from Carlson and Jill Weinzettel at third doubles, 6-3, 7-5.

The first doubles team of Peterson and Tjomsland lost 6-1, 6-0.

The second team of Nielsen and Dabruzzi lost 7-5, 6-4.
