Donald Hanson, age 62, of Cottage Grove, died on Saturday afternoon, July 31, 2010, at Regions Hospital in St. Paul.
Donald Wayne Hanson was born June 15, 1948, in St. Paul, Minn., the son of Clyde and Kathleen (Ahlman) Hanson. He was raised in St. Paul and graduated from Johnson High School in 1966. On June 26, 1970, he was united in marriage with Linda Blakeley at Christ United Methodist Church in St. Paul. Don worked many years for the U.S. Postal Service in Hastings.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda; parents, Clyde and Kathleen Hanson; mother-in-law, Marlys Blakely.
Donald is the beloved father of Todd (Melissa), Jeff (Melissa), Heather (Kory) Mortel; grandfather of Mikayla, Kylie, Braden, Emily, Danielle, Alex, Abby and baby; granddog Frodo; brother of Bev Schwartz, Bob Hanson, Pat Schoonover, Sandi Campbell; son-in-law of Donald Blakely; many nieces and nephews; and the 79th Street Gang.
Funeral service 11 a.m. Friday, August 6, at Cottage Grove United Church of Christ, 7008 Lamar Ave., Cottage Grove. Interment Cottage Grove Cemetery. Visitation 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Kok Funeral Home, 7676 80th St. S., Cottage Grove, 651-459-2875 and 10-11 a.m. Friday at church.
Don was in the band Moss in the late 60s and early 70s. He enjoyed vacations with his family and will be missed for his witty one-liners.
