The Miesville Mudhens notched their 30th win of the season Sunday afternoon thanks to a strong pitching performance from Chris Olean. He reached double digits in strikeouts with 10, and only walked one in eight innings of work.
Difference maker: Olean's ability to get out of jams helped his team. With runners on second and third with no out in the fourth, Olean struck out the next two batters and induced a weak groundout to escape unscathed in that inning.
"He just cruised the rest of the time," Miesville player/ manager Garrett Retka said of Olean. "He was very efficient, very tough today."
Top players: Andrew Hanson led the Miesville offense by going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Matt Van Der Bosch went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.
Vs Hastings
The Mudhens scored two runs in the second inning and two in the sixth to win on the road.
Difference maker: Erik Olson started for Miesville and pitched eight innings without allowing a run.
Top players: Miesville's Chris Coullard went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Matt Hanse and Garrett Retka each drove in a run, too.
Next up: Section 1B playoffs: No. 4 Hastings or No. 5 Northfield at Miesville, 8 p.m. Aug. 6
