Hawks suffer second loss to Red Wing

Sunday’s game against the Red Wing Aces left the Hastings Hawks a little short. Red Wing won, 5-0, and held the Hawks to just three hits.

Two of those hits came from Brandon Peterson. David Vogelgesang had the other.

Derrick Pfeffer was the Hawks’ starting pitcher. He played six and a third innings, allowing five runs on nine hits, including a home run over the right field wall.

Adam Barta relieved Pfeffer in the seventh inning and finished the game, allowing no runs and two hits.

This is Hastings’ second Classic Cannon Valley League loss to Red Wing this season. The first was a 2-1 loss in the Hawks’ CCVL opener. The Hawks are now 4-6.

The Hawks host Prescott Friday night and travel to Sauk Rapids Saturday. The team’s next CCVL games will be at 6 p.m. Sunday, July 18, against Randolph (0-10) and at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, against Northfield (2-9). Both games will be held at Veteran’s Park in Hastings.
