The Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT) announced Friday afternoon that the team of Lunda/Ames is the apparent contractor for the new Highway 61 bridge in Hastings. Its bid of about $120 million is about $100 million less than expected for the project, scheduled to begin later this year.

A final contract for the project is expected to be finalized in three to five weeks, or right after July 4, according to project manager Steve Kordosky. At that time, the bridge design -- arch or cable -- will be announced.

Lunda Construction is located in Black River Falls, Wis., and Ames Construction Inc. is located in Burnsville.
