Memorial Day weekend proved to be the perfect time to begin the summer car show series downtown

The first Historic Hastings Saturday Night Cruise-In of the season was held over the weekend and as usual, attendance was high.

Vintage automobiles from 1976 and earlier are showcased at the shows. Food vendors line the streets, and the downtown businesses offer special sales and hours as well.

The next Cruise-In is planned for Saturday, June 12.

Other shows are planned for June 26, July 10, July 24, Aug. 7, Aug. 21, Sept. 4, Sept. 18 and Oct. 2.

All car shows run from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Special events are planned for certain weekends.

On June 26, it will be public safety night, where emergency vehicles will be parked up and down Second Street.

Aug. 7 will be military night. Vintage military vehicles will be on display, and a Blackhawk helicopter will also be present.

On Aug. 21, America’s first 50 will be celebrated. Cars from 1900 to 1950 will be given the spotlight.

Other special events are in the works for other weekends as well.
