Hastings Police Officer Donald Farrington was charged last week after falsely reporting a crime and leaving the scene of an accident in St. Paul.
Farrington crashed his personal car into a telephone pole at about 4:15 a.m. April 10. He left the scene, then called St. Paul police and told them he had been carjacked at gunpoint.
Officers came to his home in North. St. Paul at about 5 a.m. that morning to take a report and that’s when Farrington told them he had, in fact, crashed the car himself.
His blood-alcohol content was checked and it was .03. The legal limit is .08.
Farrington was hired in 2006. He has since checked himself into a medical treatment program.
Farrington’s first court appearance is Aug. 17. He has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident and filing a false report, both of which are misdemeanors.
