The Hastings boys lacrosse club notched two more non-conference wins against Henry Sibley and North St. Paul.

The Hastings boys lacrosse club notched two more non-conference wins against Henry Sibley and North St. Paul.

The Raiders hit the road to play Henry Sibley. They had a slow start and struggled to keep momentum going, coach Brian Jenson said, but they managed to stay ahead and won 11-6.

Senior Thane Rohweder and junior Andy Riveness scored Hastings’ first two goals in the first quarter after Henry Sibley scored the first goal of the game. In the second quarter, seniors Dylan Dock and John Webber each scored twice. Riveness and senior Tommy Sieh had assists.

Sieh got another assist on a goal by senior Ryan Bussey, Bussey assisted Rohweder and sophomore Jordan Burr scored in the third quarter. Senior Mike Young and Sieh rounded out the game with two more goals in the final quarter.

Sophomore goalie Leo Martineau had 10 saves.

Both teams had a fistful of penalties. Hastings had nine and Henry Sibley had 12.

Vs. North St. Paul

The Raiders faced off against North Saint Paul on Hastings ground May 20. Early in the game, the Raiders discovered they didn’t have to focus on scoring. Hastings led 14-0 after the first quarter. The Raiders scaled back after that and won the game 20-0.

“North St. Paul is a first-year team and has had losses like this all season,” Jenson said.

Rather than work on scoring, the Raiders worked on minimizing mistakes and didn’t get a penalty during the game.

Jenson said the game was the most complete they’ve played all season. The boys were fundamentally sound, he said, had great accuracy on passes and shots, good field awareness and were doing a good job of reading and reacting to the North St. Paul defense.

Scorers include Dock, Webber, senior Ben Smith, Sieh, Young, Bussey, Rohweder, senior Joey Shatek, junior Corey Latuff, senior John Klein, Burr, and Riveness. Bussey, Webber, Riveness, Dock, Berens, and Shatek all earned assists.

The two wins put Hastings at 5-4 for the season. The next game is against White Bear Lake at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, at the Kennedy Elementary School field.
