Hastings jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back in a 89-73 win over Park last week.
The Raiders actually led 89-35 late in the meet before swimming exhibition only in the final three events.
Despite the lopsided win, there were a number of close races, which was exactly what Hastings coach Gerry Rupp was hoping for heading into the meet.
“Our whole intent of the meet was to create some races,” Rupp said. “I manipulated my personnel in order to do that. We wanted to make it fun, make it interesting and have people in events they don’t normally swim in.”
One of the highlights was the swim turned in by Elliot Wilcox in the 50 freestyle. He finished with a time of 21.74 seconds. It was his first time under 22 seconds this season.
“That is really fast for right now, especially with no rest,” Rupp said. “He had been toying with breaking the sub 22-second mark. He finally got under it. That’s a really fast time.”
Tony Ring also turned in a strong time in the 100 backstroke.
“He is really coming on in the second half of the season,” Rupp said. “We need that out of him. He’s going to be our only underclassman next year. He’s really hitting his stride, which is nice to see.”
