Almost 500 Dakota Electric customers were without power for two hours Monday night.

Dakota Electric spokesperson Joe Miller said a distribution line broke around 11:30 p.m. Monday night and 489 customers, most in the southeast part of Hastings, were without power until it was restored at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Miller said the cold weather likely played a role in the break, as power lines expand and contract with changing temperatures, although breaks of this type are rare, he said.
