Hastings coach Craig Raway figured his team’s section match Tuesday against Albert Lea would be close.
But when he found out that No. 1 singles player, Shanna Burgmeier, woke up with with a fever and the flu Tuesday, things got real interesting, real quickly.
Raway had to shuffle the Hastings lineup around, and whatever he did worked.
Hastings eked out a close 4-3 win over Albert Lea. The Raiders were the North’s No. 4 seed. Albert Lea was the No. 5 seed in the south.
Raway moved Lindsey Reinisch to No. 1 singles, and she delivered with a convincing 6-3, 6-0 win.
Morgan Tjomsland was moved up to second singles and fell, 6-4, 6-1.
Hailey Lundquist came up to third singles and lost a close match, 6-3, 6-4.
Mackenzie Klimek scored a huge win at fourth singles in a three-set match, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.
In doubles play, Kirsten Peterson and Erika Nielsen fell 6-2, 7-5.
The No. 2 doubles team of Ashley Addison and Gina Dabruzzi won 75-, 6-1.
And, in the closest three-set match of the meet, the No. 3 doubles team of Hannah Carlson and Jessica Wassink won 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
