The Hastings boys cross country team welcomed back one of its best runners this week, as HHS senior Michael Rough returned to the Raider lineup.
Rough helped Hastings place sixth out of eight teams at the annual Red Wing Invitational Friday in Red Wing.
Rough finished in the middle of a three-person Hastings pack at the race.

“It was good to see all three of those guys running together as a pack,” Hastings coach John Dewall said. “We’re looking for improvement from all three of those guys coming into our next meet.”
Also scoring for Hastings were Matthew Rogness, who took 34th in 18:45.62; and Zack Benning, who was 35th in 18:46.13.

“There was some real good competition there,” Dewall said.
Senior Kelly Pechous led Hastings with a seventh-place finish in 15:38.35.
“Kelly ran a real good race,” Dewall said. “She was out with the leaders. She ran with the No. 2 girl in the state for a while. She hung on to that group for a while.”
Bri Strandberg, a freshman, was eighth overall and finished in 15:41.94.
“She continues to improve every week,” Dewall said.
Strandberg’s time was her personal best.

Hastings runs at Brooktree in Owatonna today (Thursday). The course will be the same one Hastings will see in a few weeks at the section meet.
