A one-vehicle crash Aug. 4 sent three Hastings teens to the trauma center at Regions Hospital in St. Paul.
A 1998 Volkswagon Jetta driven by Daniil Usachev, 18, Hastings, was traveling southbound in the northbound lane of Vermillion Street around 5 a.m. when it veered off the road and struck a tree head-on on the southeast corner of Vermillion and 7th streets.
A 13-year-old male and a 15-year-old female, both from Hastings, were passengers in the vehicle. Usachev and both passengers were transported to Regions by Hastings ambulance with critical, but non-life threatening injuries. All three were upgraded to serious yet stable condition by the end of the day Aug. 4, according to Police Chief Mike McMenomy.
As of Wednesday morning, Usachev had been discharged from Regions. The status of the two juveniles is unknown.
The State Patrol and Hastings Police are still investigating the cause of the accident and it is unknown whether alcohol or any other substances played a role in the crash. The outcome of the investigation will determine if any criminal charges will result from the accident, McMenomy said.
