To the editor: Trucks and Harleys are real noise concerns

It strikes me as odd that our City Council dithers and worries over the sound of train whistles and the possibilities of roosters crowing in the early morning, but seems deaf to semi-trucks with loud jake brakes, unmuffled Harleys, window-shaking amplified car music, and obnoxious pickup truck dual exhaust systems.

To the editor,

It strikes me as odd that our City Council dithers and worries over the sound of train whistles and the possibilities of roosters crowing in the early morning, but seems deaf to semi-trucks with loud jake brakes, unmuffled Harleys, window-shaking amplified car music, and obnoxious pickup truck dual exhaust systems.

Maybe that’s because I grew up in the country, where train whistles and roosters were considered pleasant sounds, although I cannot help but wonder when the last time a ticket was written for excessive noise in Hastings or if such laws actually exist here.

Perhaps I should stop complaining or just wait until my hearing gets worse and I can no longer hear the racket of my fellow citizens, and then I could run for City Council.
