Worknight in the prairie
Help protect the Hastings Sand Coulee Scientific and Natural area (SNA) from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 27. With its tall grass and wildflowers, the Sand Coulee offers a different kind of beauty. While not your average park visitor's destination, for animals and insects it is no less than an oasis in a desert of habitat; some 14 rare plant and animal species call the coulee home. On this summer evening, volunteers will work with FMR Restoration Ecologist Karen Schik to help protect this rare patch of prairie by learning to identify and helping to halt the spread of the invasive species cow vetch and spotted knapweed. Capacity is limited and pre-registration is required. Learn more at www. fmr.org/participate/events or sign up now with Lindsay at lh email@example.com or 651-222-2193 x24.
