William Dean Hefnider of Hastings, a long-time employee of the H.D. Hudson Manufacturing Co., died Aug. 14, 2006, at United Hospital, St. Paul. He was 71 years old.
He was born Feb. 13, 1935, in Wichita, Kan., the son of William Jacob and Laura Grace (nee Syring) Hefnider. The family moved to Roseland, Neb., when he was age 9.
He received his business degree from Kearney State College in Kearney, Neb. He was in the Army National Guard for 20 years after his naval service. He was a former purchasing manager at H.D. Hudson Manufacturing Co. and had also worked as a part-time bookkeeper for Conzemius Trucking.
He married Arlene J. Mutkala June 21, 1958, in Pelkie, Mich. She died Jan. 7, 2004.
He is survived by a daughter Cynthia (William) Hart of Pelkie, Mich.; sons William Hefnider of Coon Rapids and Daniel (Karla) Hefnider of Coon Rapids; grandchildren Kristin, Lucas and Adam; and sisters LaVaun Soucek of Kansas City, Mo., and Norma Eurek of Canon City, Colo. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 18, at Our Saviour's Evangelical Lutheran Church , 400 W. Ninth St. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. at Our Saviour's, with the Rev. Lloyd Menke officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeside Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Hastings VFW Lyle Russell Post 1210 honor guard.
