Weinzettel moves on to semifinals

Jill Weinzettel sure made things interesting last week.

The HHS junior and No. 1 singles player this season advanced to the Section 1AA semifinals before losing.

She opened her section tournament with a pair of big wins on Thursday, Oct. 10. Those wins qualified her to play on Tuesday, Oct. 15, in the semifinals.

In her first match on Tuesday, she lost to a player from Owatonna, 6-0, 6-1.

In the third-place match against a competitor from Northfield, Weinzettel won the first set, 6-4, before losing the next two, 6-4, 6-0.

Her Hastings teammates competing at the section tournament were all eliminated from play after the first day.

Anna Foster, also playing in singles, won her first round match but lost in the second round.

The doubles team of Maddie Carlson and Annika Peterson lost in three sets in the first round of doubles play.

Telma Roesler and Katie Roach lost in straight sets in their first round match.
