Vehicle stolen, driver leads police in pursuit
A 28-year-old Hugo man faces charges of theft - unauthorized use of a motor vehicle fleeing a police officer, driving after revocation, and speed after a Sept. 2 pursuit that began in Ravenna Township, continued through the south area of the township, and ended on a farm off Highway 20 in Douglas Township.
According to the criminal complaint filed in the Dakota County Attorney's office, the pursuit began on Ravenna Trail near 185th Street when a Dakota County deputy observed a vehicle driving a high rate of speed.
After the deputy stopped the vehicle, north of 200th Street, the driver, later identified as Jason Darwin Dean, accelerated and pulled away. The pursuit continued on Highway 316, and then Highway 61 and Highway 20. At one point, the vehicle stopped, and the driver fled on foot.
Another deputy with a K9 dog searched the area, and Dean was located on top of grain silo. He was taken into custody.
When the deputy who first responded to the incident came to the jail, he learned the vehicle driven by Dean had been reported stolen out of Mendota Heights.
