Update: One man killed in ATV crash Thursday

Isaac James Lucking, 26, of Vermillion Township, was killed in an ATV crash Thursday afternoon.

The crash was reported shortly after 5 p.m. in the area of 180th Street and Goodwin Avenue. Hastings ambulance and the Dakota County Sheriff's Department responded. Lucking was found critically injured at the scene. According to Sheriff Dave Bellows, Lucking was traveling eastbound on 180th Street when he apparently lost control of the ATV he was driving, sustaining a head injury. He was the only person on the machine at the time of the accident and was not wearing a helmet. The crash was witnessed by a second person who was following the victim at the time of the crash.

Lucking was airlifted to the trauma center at Regions Hospital in St. Paul. According to his obituary, he died July 5 as a result of his injuries.

The crash was investigated by the Sheriff's Office and the Minnesota State Patrol.

A prayer service was held Friday evening for Lucking's family and friends at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Vermillion.

Lucking, nicknamed "Tubby," is the son of Randy and Patricia Lucking. He graduated from Hastings High School in 2005 and was a member of the Forty Niner's Union as a heavy equipment operator.

His funeral Mass, officiated by Fr. Stan Mader,  will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 11, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 106 Main St. West, Vermillion. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at St. John’s School in Vermillion. He will be interred in the parish cemetery.
