Two die in crash on Highway 52
Two passengers in a Honda Civic were killed when the driver of their vehicle apparently failed to yield the right of way to another vehicle, a Toyota Rav4, on Highway 52 at 280th Street, and was broadsided by that vehicle shortly after noon Saturday, July 27.
The Minnesota State Patrol identified the deceased victims as La Yin, 48, St. Paul, and Naw Wah, 48, also of St. Paul.
Lui L. Thein, 21, St. Paul, was driving the Civic and did not sustain any apparent injury. The driver of the Rav4 was Christian Y. Chen, 23, Rochester. She had no apparent injury. A passenger in the Civic, Paller Htoo, 18, St. Paul, sustained non-life threatening injuries. A passenger of the Rav4, Travis H. Chen., 17, Rochester, had no apparent injury.
According to the State Patrol, the Thein vehicle was southbound on Highway 52, turning eastbound onto 280th Street and did not yield to northbound Highway 52 traffic. The vehicle was broadsided by the Chen vehicle, which was northbound on Highway 52. Both vehicles went into the ditch, where both deceased passengers were ejected from the Civic.
