Two charged with drug crimes, one taken to hospital
A Hastings man, Brody Dominic Hamilton, 21, and a Minneapolis woman, Roseanne April Kohnen, 25, face serious drug charges after their vehicle was stopped Dec. 14 in Hastings.
Kohnen was charged with two counts of a controlled substance crime in the first degree, and Hamilton was charged with one count of a controlled substance crime in the first degree and one count of a controlled substance crime in the first degree.
According to the complaint, a Dakota County deputy observed vehicle with a broken taillight. As the deputy observed the vehicle, the driver failed to signal a turn, the deputy stopped the vehicle.
Kohnen was identified as the driver, and Hamilton was a passenger. She appeared nervous and confused, according to the complaint. When the deputy checked her criminal history, he learned she had a warrant for her arrest out of Hennepin County. She was placed under arrest and placed in the squad car. In a pat-search of Kohnen, the deputy found a large plastic bag with suspected drugs in her boot.
Hamilton was asked to get out of the vehicle before a search began. Inside Hamilton's pocket, the deputy found two crystals. Hamilton was placed under arrest.
A search of the vehicle located numerous plastic bags containing suspected methamphetamine. Testing confirmed the bags contained 169.04 grams of methamphetamine.
As the deputies were searching the vehicle, one checked on Kohnen who appeared to be lying in the back seat of the squad car. She was shaking and non-responsive. As a result, she was taken to Regina Medical Center where doctors told police she was faking an overdose. She then was transferred to the Dakota County Jail.
