Tennis team wins four straight
After a couple close losses last week, the Hastings girls tennis team rebounded this week with three lopsided wins and one close win. They're on a three-game winning streak heading in Suburban East Conference play this week.
On Aug. 30, Hastings kicked off SEC play with a 6-1 victory over Woodbury.
Jill Weinzettel earned a spot at first singles and won in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 6-0.
Katerina Suchmova won at second singles, 6-3, 6-1.
Maddie Carlson lost at third singles, 6-4, 6-2.
At fourth singles, Anna Foster won 3-6, 7-6, 1-0.
In doubles play, the top team of Hailey Lundquist and Morgan Tjomsland won 6-1, 6-3.
At second doubles, Caitlyn Judge and Annika Peterson won 6-1, 6-0.
At third doubles, Abbie Williams and Sammy Dabruzzi won 6-4, 6-3.
On Tuesday, Hastings kept the positive momentum going with a 6-1 win over White Bear Lake.
Lundquist, Tjomsland and Maddie Carlson all won at singles. In doubles, all three teams swept. Weinzettel and Peterson won at the top spot. Judge and Hannah Carlson won at second doubles and Williams and Dabruzzi won at third doubles.
Hastings has an overall record of 8-5 on the season, and the team is 2-0 in SEC play.
Hastings beat Red Wing on Aug. 29 in a close match, 4-3.
Suchmova lost at first singles, 6-1, 4-6, 6-0.
Lundquist won at second singles, 6-1, 6-1.
Tjomsland won at third singles, 6-1, 6-3.
Foster lost at fourth singles.
In doubles, Weinzettel and Peterson won 7-5, 6-2.
Maddie Carlson and Judge lost 7-6, 6-7, 6-3.
Williams and Dabruzzi won 6-7, 6-4, 7-5.
On Aug. 28, Hastings beat Lake City, 6-1.
Suchmova won 6-7, 7-5, 6-0.
Lundquist won 6-0, 6-1.
Tjomsland won 6-4, 6-0.
Peterson won 6-3, 6-3.
The first doubles team of Maddie Carlson and Weinzettel won 6-2, 5-7, 6-3.
Judge and Williams won 6-3, 6-1.
Dabruzzi and Lauren Mattmiller lost 1-6, 4-6.
