Tennis team falls to Roseville, Stillwater

In two competitive Suburban East Conference tennis matches, the Hastings girls have come out on the wrong side of 5-2 scores.

Hastings lost its opener to Roseville on Thursday, 5-2. On Tuesday, Hastings lost to the No. 9 ranked team in the state from Stillwater, 5-2.

"The girls are fighting hard and practicing well," coach Craig Raway said. "The results will come."

In the opener against Roseville, Hastings got a win at first singles from Jill Weinzettel, who cruised 6-1, 6-1.

At second singles, Anna Foster lost 6-2, 7-6.

At third singles, Erin Henrichs fell 6-2, 6-0.

At the fourth spot, Telma Roesler lost 7-5, 6-2.

The No. 1 doubles team of Sammy Dabruzzi and Lauren Mattmiller lost a close one in three sets. They lost the first set 6-2, then won the second 6-3 before losing in the third set, 6-4.

The No. 2 team of Katie Roach and Annika Peterson won 6-2, 7-5.

The third team of Bailey Alter and Sara Lund lost 6-2, 6-2.

In the matchup against the highly ranked Ponies, Hastings got both of its wins in singles play. Foster won at second singles, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.

Roesler won at fourth singles, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6.

Weinzettel lost at first singles, 7-6, 6-1, and Henrich lost a close one at third singles, 7-5, 6-3.

In doubles, Dabruzzi and Matmiller lost 6-0, 6-2.

Peterson and Roach lost 6-1, 6-4.

Alter and Lund lost 6-1, 6-4.

Tournaments

Hastings traveled to Duluth earlier this season for a tournament. The Raiders lost all three of their matches there.

Hastings fell to Duluth East (6-1), Virginia (4-3) and White Bear Lake (5-2).

At a tournament in Lakeville, Hastings went 1-2. The Raiders beat Holy Angels (7-0), then fell to Lakeville South (5-2) and Armstrong (6-1).

At their own tournament, the Raiders placed third.
