Swimmers kick off season with SEC relays

The Hastings girls swimming team kicked off its season on Thursday night with the Suburban East Conference relays.

Hastings finished third in the five-team meet with 114 points.

Stillwater won the meet with 140 points and Mounds View was second with 122.

Woodbury and East Ridge also competed.

Results from the meet went like this:

400 medley relay — team of Brina Kari, Helen Jensen, Allissa Smith and Abbie Gjelhaug, first, 4:08.86.

200 freestyle relay — team of Kelly Leonard, Elli Walker, Elli Wallace and Christina Gillard, third, 1:47.36; team of Savannah Caroon, Hannah Harris, Caroline Meyer ZuEppendor and Kayla Schindler, 12th, 2:16.94.

4x100 IM relay — team of Morgan McCullough, Jenna Spitzack, Grace Housman and Smith, third, 4:21.32; team of Breanna Kimmes, Nikki Girgen, Rosie Pechous and Schindler, 10th, 5:10.03.

Diving — Hastings, fourth, 114.50.

200 butterfly relay — team of Spitzack, Walker, Leonard and Jensen, second, 1:54.61; team of Gillard, Valya Tipler, Pechous and Gretta Utecht, ninth, 2:06.52.

800 freestyle relay — team of Gjelhaug, McCullough, Kimmes and Leonard, fourth, 8:29.85; team of Housman, Tipler, Jahnke and Mariah Wallace, ninth, 9:20.72.

200 backstroke — team of Ellie Wallace, McCullough, Mariah Wallace and Kari, third, 1:59.13; team of Utecht, Schindler, Harris and ZuEppendor, 14th, 2:41.08.

200 breaststroke — team of Gillard, Walker, Housman and Spitzack, seventh, 2:29.63.

400 freestyle relay — team of Gjelhaug, Jensen, Smith and Kari, first, 3:42.57; team of Mariah Wallace, Tipler, Girgen and Kimmes, 10th, 4:14.02.
