The top winners are Ciara Christensen and Dharma LeMoine-Tennant. Second place winners are Erin Smothers and Kalyne Henrichsen. Third place winners are Kaylee Morris and Kallyn Lutz. Helping to judge the contest was Jeanne Mamer, retired Hastings Middle School art teacher. The contest is open to seventh-grade social studies students each year.

The entries are judge on originality, artistic merit and expression of theme. In her poster, Ciara had the girl depicted as dreaming and seeing peace through her mind. There were people around her on the poster. The background is a wing.

"People can stop any time to have peace," said Ciara.

She completed her work in colored pencils.

Dharma had drawn a poster similar to this one, and enjoys doing artwork. On her poster, she drew a girl who is blindfolded. She is holding the world above her

"Peace is blind," said Dharma said, indicating that there should be no restrictions for it.

The two entries will advance to the Lions District 5M6 competition (portions of Dakota, Washington, and Ramsey counties. The winner will be announced at the annual mid-winter convention in January.
